I competed yesterday in Virginia Beach at the submission only. Some of the other guys from the CNU club came and competed too, and did very well. I think everyone that competed won a medal, and everyone had at least one gold or silver. A few people from my gym competed too, and everyone did pretty well.
I didn’t feel like cutting weight, so I competed up at 162 rather than 149. It would’ve probably gone better at 149, but it’s all good. There were about 10 people in my weight class. I won my first match by sneaky choke. My second match I ended up taking the back and winning by loop choke. In the finals, I lost to a tall lanky guy. He flying triangled me at the very beginning, then we sat there for like 5 minutes while he tried to finish it and I tried to defend. I had my other hand in and was gable gripping, but unfortunately my gable grip was right where his leg met my neck, so I couldn’t grip properly. He messed with the shoulder lock, rolled to mount, I kept defending, then I rolled back to the top and he eventually got my arm out and finished the triangle.
I guess overall it went decently. I was disappointed to not even get a chance to do anything in the finals match though, just spent it being in a triangle immediately. Oh well. I’ll learn from it, and I’ll compete against that guy again and win.
